How to Grow Peanuts from Seed – A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Grow Peanuts from Seed – A Step-by-Step Guide 🥜🌱
Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) are surprisingly easy to grow, even in home gardens! Unlike most nuts, peanuts are legumes and grow underground. If you have a sunny spot and well-draining soil, you can successfully cultivate your own peanuts from seed.

🔹 Step 1: Choosing the Right Peanut Seeds
✅ Use raw, unroasted peanuts (preferably with shells still intact).
✅ Peanuts from garden centers or seed suppliers germinate better than store-bought varieties.
✅ Avoid peanuts that have been treated or processed.

📌 Tip: If using unshelled peanuts, crack them open carefully without damaging the seeds inside.

🔹 Step 2: Preparing for Planting
Best Time to Plant:
✔ Spring (after the last frost) – Peanuts need warm soil (at least 65°F or 18°C) to germinate.

Soil Preparation:
✔ Peanuts thrive in loose, sandy, well-draining soil.
✔ Avoid heavy, clay-like soil, which can restrict growth.
✔ Enrich soil with compost but avoid nitrogen-heavy fertilizers (peanuts fix their own nitrogen).

📌 Ideal pH: 5.8 – 6.2 (slightly acidic to neutral).
